The Joy of a Handwritten Card

Do you remember how great it feels to receive a handwritten letter in the mail?  Me either.  It’s been a while since anything came that wasn’t an advertisement or a bill.

That is about to change.  Let’s spread some sunshine together!  If you’re anything like me, you have a drawer with a few note cards that you’ve picked up over the years.  Something too funny or too pretty to pass by and that you’re sure that you’ll use it someday.  Well, it’s time.

Set aside a few minutes this week to write a note to someone in your life.  Tell them you miss them or something that you admire about them.  You can just let them know that you’re thinking of them or reminisce about a laugh that the two of you shared.  It will make you smile and I guarantee that it will make them smile too!

Don’t forget to pop it in the mail.

If you happen to have a spare card, consider sending a note to a complete stranger.  You can help reduce the negative effects of social isolation and loneliness with a handwritten card.

Send a card of encouragement to a senior living in our community:

Send a letter to a Canadian Veteran to let them know that you appreciate their service and sacrifice:

You can post a message for any Canadian Armed Forces member on a digital, public message board:

This is an American initiative, but still a great project!  Every month, 5 to 6 people in need are nominated to receive a bundle of love letters.  You can check out their website and read a bit about the potential recipients – and maybe send a letter to one of the nominees!  They accept letters of encouragement from around the world.  Check them out here:

Wishing you a wonderful winter!
